Financial resources secure day-to-day operations and enable targeted investments in core areas of activity. A transparent use of funds creates clarity about the origin and use of the money.
Swiss Transfusion SRC performs its duties on behalf of the Swiss Red Cross and the Swiss Confederation. While funding is provided for the operation of the blood stem cell donor registry, the registry’s expansion is financed entirely through monetary donations.

Solidarity fund “Blood”
The Swiss Red Cross set up the solidarity fund “Blood” in 1993. Disbursements from this fund are intended to ease the suffering of people who have been infected with dangerous diseases through blood products. The large majority of such patients were infected with HIV or hepatitis C in the 1980s or early 1990s. With this fund, which was set up specifically for this purpose, the Swiss Red Cross attests to the solidarity felt for people harmed by blood products received via transfusions. The payment of benefits from the fund is a voluntary undertaking.
In 2023, the Red Cross Council and the SRC Humanitarian Foundation approved the indefinite continuation of payments from the solidarity fund to the remaining beneficiaries.
The solidarity fund paid out a total of 503’400 in 2025. These payments helped to ease the difficult financial situations of 26 HIV patients (or their families), and of 2 people infected with hepatitis. The SRC Humanitarian Foundation’s contributions to the fund have been suspended to reduce the accumulated capital.
