“Personal interactions with the staff are very important.”

“Long-term security of supply is not achieved through individual decisions but through sound structures and solid cooperation.”

Isabelle Chassot, President of the Board of Directors

The work of Swiss Transfusion SRC is very much informed by numbers, processes and medical standards. At the beginning and end of every decision taken though, there are people: donors, patients, and employees who take responsibility.

Our task is clearly defined in this respect. We are responsible to the outside world for ensuring safe, reliable processes that are as simple as possible for donors. Providing medical care to patients is the job of the hospitals: our job is to ensure the quality of the processes and products upstream. Safety is paramount here.

Fulfilling this responsibility to those outside the organisation requires that certain conditions be met within the organisation. We are grateful to have independent and dedicated employees on whom we know we can rely. Our areas of activity range from specialist medical fields to IT to marketing and organisation. This breadth makes the work challenging, but it also makes it special.

This past year also comes into perspective best when viewed against this background. Though not a year with spectacular results, 2025 was a solid and successful year. Several records were reached in the blood stem cell division: at 105, the number of collection procedures from donors in Switzerland came in at an all-time high, as did the number of confirmatory typing procedures, at 482. In addition, over 11,000 new donors were registered. That is not a record, but it is still an extraordinarily high number. These developments reflect continuous work and effective collaboration across a range of fields.

Looking ahead, two different dynamics are emerging. Continuous services in a consolidating environment will be required in the field of blood donation. The focus will continue to be on working with the regional blood services to ensure the availability of enough loyal donors to guarantee the supply of high-quality blood products at all times. By contrast, developments in the field of blood stem cell donation proceed apace: medical innovations and new cellular therapies are giving rise to questions about how existing services should be improved and adapted.

We are looking forward to tackling these challenges with our partners. And we want to thank you all for your excellent cooperation over the past year.
